As the launch of the new-generation Xiaomi SU7 approaches, Xiaomi’s assisted driving technology is also receiving a major upgrade.
Today, CEO Lei Jun shared the latest progress on Weibo, announcing that the Xiaomi HAD (High-level Assisted Driving) system has been upgraded with the XLA cognitive large model. The new SU7 lineup will come equipped with this system at delivery.
Key Highlights
- Integration of Assisted Driving & Robotics: For the first time, Xiaomi HAD connects assisted driving with embodied robotics tasks.
- Multi-modal input: Powered by Xiaomi’s self-developed MiMo-Embodied foundation model, enabling better learning and understanding of complex scenarios.
- Improved decision-making: More controllable, human-like responses for safer and smoother driving.
Lei Jun noted:
“In the past two years, Xiaomi HAD has released three major versions. This means our team has achieved in two years what many peers take five or even ten years to accomplish.”
He emphasized that the rapid evolution of models makes Xiaomi’s progress in assisted driving very tangible.
Hardware Upgrades in New SU7
- Laser radar: Previously exclusive to top trims, now standard across all models.
- SoC with 700 TOPS computing power.
- 4D millimeter-wave radar.
- Hardware differences across trims have been eliminated, ensuring consistent intelligent driving capability.
Current and Future Outlook
Lei Jun reiterated that today’s assisted driving systems are not yet at L3 or L4 autonomy:
“This year, all smart EVs are still assisted driving, highly dependent on human drivers. Always keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.”
However, he revealed that Xiaomi is investing heavily in this area and will soon introduce L3 and L4 driving capabilities, marking a significant step toward full autonomy.
This upgrade positions Xiaomi’s SU7 as a strong contender in the intelligent EV space, combining advanced hardware with cutting-edge AI-driven assisted driving.
